Sustain the work
Theology Matters is sustained primarily by reader donations. Your gift keeps the journal in mailboxes, the articles online, and the Institute open to the next generation of pastors.
Why give
A reader-supported ministry
Since our founding in 1994, Theology Matters has been a resource for pastors, elders, and congregational leaders working through the theological challenges, temptations, and opportunities of our time.
The print journal has been free, by design, for more than three decades. The web articles are free. The Institute for Theological Education exists in part to make Reformed theological education accessible to candidates who could not otherwise afford seminary tuition.
None of that happens without donors. Theology Matters is sustained primarily by readers and donors who believe that confessional, biblical theology is worth investing in. Every gift, of any size, makes the work possible.
What your gift supports
Three areas, one mission
The print journal
Quarterly issues mailed free to every reader who requests one. Your gift covers writing, editing, design, printing, and postage so the journal stays free of charge.
Articles and editorial work
Web-first commentary on contemporary church debates published throughout the quarter. Your gift sustains the editorial office and the contributors who keep the work coming.
Institute scholarships
Financial aid for students in the M.A. in Reformed Theology. Your gift removes the cost barrier for candidates who are called to ministry but lack the means.

Planned giving
Make a lasting gift
Many of our most meaningful gifts come through estate plans, retirement accounts, and gifts of appreciated assets. These methods can carry significant tax advantages while extending the reach of your generosity beyond your lifetime.
Bequest in your will
Naming Theology Matters as a beneficiary in your will or living trust costs nothing during your lifetime and leaves a lasting witness to the work you cared about. Your attorney can add the language in a brief codicil.
IRA charitable rollover
If you are 70½ or older, you may transfer up to $105,000 per year directly from your IRA to Theology Matters as a Qualified Charitable Distribution. The amount counts toward your required minimum distribution and is excluded from your taxable income.
Donor-advised fund
If you have a donor-advised fund, you can recommend a grant to Theology Matters from your DAF sponsor. We are recognised as a 501(c)(3) and eligible to receive DAF grants.
Gifts of stock or appreciated assets
Donating long-held appreciated securities directly avoids capital gains tax while letting you deduct the full fair-market value. Contact our office for transfer instructions.
For planned giving questions and transfer details, contact Dr. Richard E. Burnett at [email protected].
Honor and memorial gifts
Give in someone’s name
Gifts to Theology Matters can be made in honor of a teacher, pastor, or loved one, or in memory of a friend whose life and witness shaped your own.
To give in someone’s name, include a note with your check or contact our office after giving online with the honoree’s name and the address of any family members you would like notified. We will send a card to the family acknowledging your gift, without disclosing the amount.
Tax status
Theology Matters is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organisation. All gifts are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. A receipt is provided for every gift, by mail for checks and by email for online donations.
Donor recognition
We acknowledge every gift personally, by mail or email. Donors are not listed publicly unless they specifically ask to be. Anonymous giving is welcome and respected.
